Milton Keynes Hospital Radio Service

New Members

Our Charity Constitution outlines the aims and objectives of our organisation: We are committed to the relief of sickness, infirmity and old age among persons living in Milton Keynes and district by providing a local broadcasting service for hospitals, old peoples homes and similar institutions.

Currently we only broadcast to Milton Keynes General Hospital, but who knows what the future holds! Other Hospital Radio Services broadcast their services to several hospitals in their area.

Milton Keynes Hospital Radio is run entirely by volunteers. There are a wide variety of tasks which need to be carried out in order to ensure the smooth running of the service.

Tasks include:

  • Visiting the patients, checking bedside radio sets, collecting requests, giving out programme schedules and Radio magazines.
  • Maintaining our extensive record and CD collection, ensuring that they are kept in good condition, replacing damaged items, expanding the collection and updating the record database.
  • Regular maintainance of the studio equipment, essential to provide an uninterrupted service, including our domestic equipment and specialist equipment, such as the Mixing Console.
  • Fund-raising, a very important aspect of the Volunteer role. It costs at least £2,000 every year to keep going, half of which is raised from our small Membership Subscription.
  • Researching ideas for new programmes and making suggestions on how we can improve the service offered to the patients.
  • And last but not least, producing and presenting radio shows for the patients from our Studio within the hospital.

How You Can Help

We are always looking for enthusiastic volunteers to join our team. If you have had any experience in any of the essential tasks, so much the better. We provide a full training programme for all our volunteers. You are not expected to present programmes unless you want to.

If you are looking for an enjoyable way to help your local community and have some free time, drop us a line - we look forward to hearing from you.

Please note that regulations for Hospital Volunteers mean we are unable to accept applications from anyone under the age of 18 years.

To speed up the application process, you can now download our application form to join Milton Keynes Hospital Radio online. Once you have downloaded it, please print it out, complete the form where indicated and then return it to:
