Milton
Keynes Hospital Radio is a Registered Charity, Number 289361,
and like every other voluntary organisation we have to raise
money in order to maintain and improve the service we provide
to the patients of Milton Keynes General Hospital.
We are
entirely self-funding, which means we receive no regular grants
from statutory bodies. Our volunteers undertake various fundraising
activities and appeals. We charge an annual membership fee
(currently £35) to help cover the running costs, which
can amount to as much as £2,000 per year.
When organising
fundraising activities it is important to make it a little
exciting, otherwise it attracts little interest from volunteers.
Every year between October and December we sell raffle tickets
for the Milton Keynes Community Foundation. The first prize
is always a Volkswagen car. So, if you see us in the Hospital
Foyer or Shopping Centre selling tickets, please buy one if
you can. Every book we sell adds an extra fiver to the coffers!
We regularly
take our Mobile Studio out on the roads to provide music for
events run by the Milton Keynes Parks Trust for which we receive
a small fee in return.
Replacing
ageing equipment, and investing in new technology to improve
our service, costs a lot of money. These days we have to compete
against the National Lottery and other high profile appeals.
This has made raising funds more difficult for everyone, so
every donation received is most welcome indeed!
